the 2023-24 fellows

  • As a first-generation African-American college graduate with an associate's degree in business administration, Josh loves working with children. Thus, we are happy to have him join the residency as a 2022-23 Fellow. For the next 9-months, Josh will work alongside a lead licensed/certified teacher at Next Door Foundation Community Services on the northwest side of Milwaukee, WI, providing literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional support to PK-4 students. In fall 2023, Josh plans to pursue his bachelor's degree in Community Engagement and Education (CEED) at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM).

  • Johnnie is from East Orange, New Jersey. He is a 3rd-year African-American college student, double majoring in Journalism and Political Science at Marquette University. Johnnie loves serving people of all ages in many different capacities. For the next few months, before heading to Washington D.C., Johnnie will assist young students at St. Joseph’s Academy in Milwaukee, WI providing literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional support to PK-4 students.

  • Darian Stephan is a Junior at Marquette University studying Corporate Communication, while double minoring in Entrepreneurship and Health Communication. He is involved in numerous organizations on campus which includes serving on the board of Academic Initiatives as VP in the Urban Scholars Program, Climb USA Financial Literacy Program, Student Alumni Ambassador, and an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. He was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI.

  • DeQuan is a junior at Marquette University majoring in sociology with a minor in criminology. He grew up on the North Side of Milwaukee while spending a good majority of my life on the North Side of Chicago. Dejuan seeks to be a positive role model to young males and show them that there are numerous ways to be successful.

  • Johan is a son of Mexican immigrant parents and a recent high school graduate who has just been accepted to MATC for nursing school. His passion is to work with young children, aiming to help them experience a more enriched education leading to a successful future.

  • King is a Menominee, Oneida, and Potowatomi Native, born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin. He loves spending time outside in nature and reconnecting with his culture. King plans on earning his Associate’s Degree in his first year of college at MATC. He then plans to transfer to a 4-year HBCU. King takes pride in his work and looks forward to his experience as a fellow.
